Kathmandu, Nepal – January 3, 2025
Nepal’s tourism sector celebrated a remarkable recovery in 2024, drawing more than 1.1 million international travelers. This figure represents a 13.1% growth compared to 2023 and signifies that the country is nearing its pre-pandemic visitor numbers, achieving 96% of the levels seen before COVID-19.
Post-Pandemic Resurgence in Tourism
The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) shared that a total of 1,147,567 foreign visitors arrived throughout the year, with December alone seeing 92,034 entries. This consistent influx of tourists highlights Nepal’s resilience and its success in re-establishing its position as a favored travel destination.
Leadership Attributes Success to Collaboration
NTB CEO Deepak Raj Joshi credited the growth to collaborative efforts between various stakeholders. “The impressive growth in tourist arrivals reflects the power of partnerships and collective initiatives,” Joshi said. The NTB worked alongside government agencies, travel businesses, and media partners to rebuild Nepal’s global reputation as a prime travel destination.
Daily Tourist Numbers Show Strong Momentum
According to NTB Director Mani Raj Lamichhane, Nepal experienced an average of 3,144 tourist arrivals each day in 2024—the highest daily average since the pandemic. “This upward trend is encouraging and signals the first major rebound since the pandemic, setting the tone for further growth in 2025,” Lamichhane remarked.
