Washington, D.C. – November 2024
As the Biden administration concludes, the failures in delivering promised equity funding to women farmers have become painfully clear. The National Women in Agriculture Association (NWIAA), the world’s largest minority agriculture organization, is now turning to incoming Republican leaders to prioritize meaningful support for these farmers, who have been underserved and excluded for too long.
With its documentary set to air in December 2024, NWIAA is preparing to launch a massive awareness campaign, including press conferences in Washington, D.C., equity hearings on Capitol Hill, and a Women’s White House Equity Hearing to ensure their voices are finally heard. This campaign seeks to highlight how the USDA under the Biden administration fell short in providing essential funding to minority women in agriculture. As a result of these inequities, NWIAA is considering a $20 billion class-action lawsuit to hold the USDA accountable for the discrimination its members have experienced.
The incoming Republican administration should pledge to correct these oversights, committing to an equitable agricultural policy that respects the vital contributions of women farmers. These farmers deserve not only recognition but sustainable support, and it’s time to address the systemic issues that left them without a voice in the last administration.
Republicans now have the chance to set a higher standard for fair and just policies in agriculture, proving that they stand behind the hardworking women who are essential to the nation’s food systems and economic stability. By taking action, Republicans can ensure that equity in agriculture is no longer just a promise—it’s a reality.
