Amy Grant is an iconic singer-songwriter, whose career has spanned decades and earned her numerous awards and accolades. But, despite her successes, she faced a crisis last summer that left her feeling scared and uncertain.
After a bicycle accident in July 2020 near her home in Nashville, Grant suffered a traumatic brain injury and was forced to confront the reality of memory loss. To help her cope, she wrote down the facts she needed to remember and relied on a teleprompter to recall lyrics. But the biggest source of strength was her faith.
“It’s helped me not be afraid,” Grant said in an interview with the Today show. “And just to go, however this turns out, I believe I’m held by love, just like I believe that about you, and everybody I meet.”
Grant has now recovered from her injuries and is preparing to release her first new music in a decade, a song called “Trees We’ll Never See,” with singer Cory Asbury. Throughout her recovery, Grant has come to appreciate the beauty in trauma and the power of faith.
“I feel fantastic,” Grant said. “I mean, really from 2020 on, I feel like I had to, if I were a car, I’ve made a lotta trips to the shop. And I feel like I’m emerging. I went, ‘Oh man, I feel like a classic now.’ And actually sort of re-revved up in a really beautiful way.”
Through her difficult journey, Grant has become a beacon of strength, showing how faith and resilience can help us to overcome any obstacle. Her story is a reminder that we can all find beauty in our struggles and emerge stronger than ever.
