Ann Coulter is facing intense backlash for her recent racist and xenophobic comments about Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley. During an appearance on the “The Mark Simone Show” podcast this week, Coulter criticized Haley, who was born in the U.S. to Indian immigrant parents, saying “Why don’t you go back to your own country?” and making several disparaging comments about India.
Coulter, who has a long history of anti-immigrant and racist rhetoric, called Haley a “bimbo” and a “preposterous creature” before attacking India and its culture. She said that Haley’s candidacy reminded her that she should “immigrate to India so [she] can demand they start taking down parts of their history,” before bringing up India’s reverence for cows and its rat temple.
Haley, who announced her candidacy this Tuesday and is the first Republican opponent to former President Donald Trump, did not respond to a request for comment. She has been a vocal advocate against the Confederate flag, which Coulter criticized her for.
Coulter’s comments have been widely condemned by both Republicans and Democrats, with many calling for her to apologize for her hateful rhetoric. Her comments have no place in politics and are antithetical to the values of respect and inclusion that the United States stands for. It is unacceptable for anyone to make these kinds of prejudiced and xenophobic remarks, let alone a well-known political figure.
