When the Denver Broncos traded for star quarterback Russell Wilson last year, they rolled out the red carpet for him by giving him his own office in the team facility, located on the second floor with the coaches and executives. However, according to The Athletic’s recent article, some coaches had issues with Wilson having his own office.
The coaches reportedly believed that Wilson separating himself from the rest of the team by having his own office was not good for locker room camaraderie. One coach in particular questioned why Wilson had an office with a door at all, pointing out that the open door should be his locker. Another coach noted that having the office on the second floor separated Wilson from the players, since the players usually stayed on the first floor.
While not all of the Broncos’ coaching staff had issues with Wilson’s office, it was an issue for some in what was an ultimately disappointing first season for the future Hall of Famer in Denver. However, two Broncos players, Kendall Hinton and Melvin Gordon, were quoted on record as having no issues with Wilson having his own office.
Ultimately, the decision to give Russell Wilson his own office may have been a good one for the Broncos, as it can encourage Wilson to take more of a leadership role and set an example for the rest of the team. Whether or not it was the right call remains to be seen, but it is clear that it was met with mixed reactions from the coaching staff.
