The popular comic strip Dilbert has been pulled from many newspapers across the country after the strip’s creator, Scott Adams, made disparaging remarks about Black people. Adams made the comments during a livestream, where he suggested that white people should “get the hell away from Black people” and that Black people are a “hate group”.
The comments were met with swift backlash from many publications, such as USA Today and Advance Local which both released statements calling Adams’ comments “discriminatory”. Other publications such as the Plain Dealer, NJ.com and MLive.com have dropped Dilbert from their pages as well.
This isn’t the first time Adams has come under fire for his views. In 2020, he called the Black Lives Matter movement a “domestic terror organization” and he has been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump since 2015. In July 2020, he suggested that if Joe Biden was elected President, Republicans would be “hunted”.
The controversial comments and beliefs of Scott Adams have finally caught up with him, and it appears that the future of Dilbert is uncertain. While it remains to be seen if the comic strip will ever return to the pages of newspapers, one thing is certain: Scott Adams’ words have consequences.
