The Seattle Sea Dragons pulled off an incredible comeback victory on Saturday night, thanks in large part to the spectacular play of wide receiver Josh Gordon. With the Sea Dragons trailing the Vegas Vipers 26-24 and just 59 seconds left in the game, Gordon made an incredible 65-yard touchdown catch to give Seattle the lead and the win.
The catch was made even more impressive by the fact that Gordon had to evade two defenders and backpedal for five yards before cutting back inside and sprinting into the end zone. Even more incredible was the fact that the XFL had audio of the play being called from the sideline to quarterback Ben DiNucci and then from DiNucci to the rest of the offense, in real time.
It was a thrilling moment for the entire Sea Dragons team and especially Gordon, who has had his fair share of off-field issues in the past few years. His time in the NFL may have been cut short, but he is now making a huge impact on the XFL.
The Sea Dragons’ victory was also made possible by their unconventional strategy of going for a three-point conversion after scoring a fourth-quarter touchdown to cut the Vegas lead to 26-24. The XFL allows teams to go for three from the 10-yard line and Seattle wanted the three points to take the lead, but the conversion failed.
Regardless of the failed conversion, Gordon’s catch was one of the most memorable moments of this XFL season and a reminder that there is still a place in football for talented players such as himself.
