Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Cringey ‘Shitshow’ at Classified Briefing
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) recently caused a stir when she pitched a fit during a classified briefing on the Chinese spy balloon, boasting to the media afterwards, “I tore ’em to pieces. I chewed them out.” Now, Tennessee Rep. Steve Cohen, who was in attendance, has spilled the tea on what happened during the “shitshow.”
According to Cohen, Greene berated the officials in attendance, saying, “You embarrassed the president of the United States. You let this balloon fly over the United States. We didn’t know what was in that balloon,” and then shouting, “That was just bullshit. And I don’t believe anything you’re telling us.”
The balloon actually flew over the U.S. for four — not eight — days, and the officials had explained that it was taken down when it was over the ocean due to concerns about possible risks to people on the ground. When one of the officials attempted to respond to Greene, she shouted at him. “He said, ‘Ma’am, I didn’t interrupt you and I appreciate your not interrupting me.’ And she shut up,” Cohen recounted.
Cohen referred to Greene’s other wild comments in the past, including her insistence that California wildfires were sparked by a “Jewish space laser.” He also noted her recent heckling of President Joe Biden during his State of the Union address when she shouted “liar” when Biden chided Republicans for strategizing to erode Social Security.
Greene could not immediately be reached for comment.
It’s clear that Greene’s antics have done nothing but embarrass her party, and it’s time for Republican leadership to take a stand and acknowledge that her behavior is unacceptable.
