LeBron James is one of the most iconic athletes in the world, and for the last two decades he has been the face of the National Basketball Association (NBA). But despite his legendary status, it seems that the King has forgotten about one of the other Kings he shares an arena with.
On Sunday, LeBron was asked about the possibility of owning the NBA’s hypothetical 31st franchise in Las Vegas. In response, he mentioned the Vegas Aces, the Raiders and “the Kings” as examples of successful sports teams in the city. But what he didn’t realize is that the Kings in Las Vegas are actually the Vegas Golden Knights, the NHL hockey team.
When reporters corrected him, LeBron’s one-word response was “who?”. The Los Angeles Kings, the NHL team LeBron was thinking of, quickly responded to James’ slip-up with a witty comment on social media.
But despite the gaffe, LeBron still showed why he is the King of basketball, as he captained his team to a record-tying 19th All-Star Game victory.
As the NBA continues to grow in popularity, LeBron’s influence on the sport will only increase. But as he takes on a larger role in the game, it’s important that he remembers the other Kings he shares an arena with. After all, what’s a King without his court?
