Gradey Dick is one of the top prospects in the 2023 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-8 freshman out of Kansas is the No. 3 overall prospect and the top small forward on the board. Dick is a versatile scorer who can create his own shot off the dribble and is a threat from beyond the arc. He also has great length and athleticism which allows him to be an effective defender.
Dick, who was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was a four-star recruit coming out of high school. He chose to stay near home and attend Kansas, where he has been a key contributor to the Jayhawks’ success this season. Dick is averaging 13.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game on 41% shooting from three-point range.
In the NBA, Dick projects as a 3-and-D player, who can space the floor and guard multiple positions. He is a mature player who understands the game and has an advanced feel for the game. His basketball IQ and versatility will be a great asset for any team that drafts him in June.
Growing up in Tuscaloosa, Dick was exposed to the University of Alabama’s basketball program, which has produced numerous NBA stars, including recent top picks Collin Sexton and John Petty Jr. He has been able to witness firsthand the potential that basketball players from the area have to make it to the next level.
“It’s been really cool to see people from Tuscaloosa make it to the highest level,” Dick said. “I’ve been able to meet some of those guys and it’s been really inspiring. It makes me want to do the same thing.”
Dick is projected to go in the top 10 of the 2023 NBA Draft and will have the opportunity to make a name for himself in the league. He will forever be remembered as a Tuscaloosa native who made it to the highest level of basketball.
