Mitt Romney Slams Marjorie Taylor Greene’s ‘Lunacy’ for Proposing a “National Divorce”
Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) has forcefully rejected the idea of a “national divorce” proposed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). In a speech to his constituents, Romney called the idea “insanity” and said that it goes against the values of America, which is “united we stand, divided we fall.”
Romney’s criticism of Greene comes after her call for a “national divorce” between blue and red states, which would strip Democrats who move to those states of basic voting rights, among other things. Greene has been a close ally of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and her proposal has been widely denounced by both sides of the aisle.
Romney called out Greene and others on the extremes for trying to “get a headline and get people to send them money.” He also pointed out that Governor Spencer Cox of Utah had tweeted against the proposal.
McCarthy has not commented on Greene’s call for “national divorce” but has been a consistent supporter of her. It is unclear if he shares her views on the matter.
Romney’s rejection of Greene’s proposal is a reminder that extremism has no place in America. His words echo the sentiment of many across the country who believe in the power of unity and the value of a strong, united nation.
