TikTok influencer Taylor Paul, who went viral last year after discussing her experience with “soft swinging” among her Mormon mom friends, was arrested in February on suspicion of domestic violence. The arrest has caused shock and confusion among her more than 4 million followers, who have seen her post about her struggles with depression and anxiety, her divorce, and her new relationship.
Police in Herriman, Utah responded to a report of domestic violence around 11 pm on February 17th. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found probable cause to arrest Paul on suspicion of misdemeanor assault, criminal mischief, and commission of domestic violence in the presence of a child. Paul was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail and released the following day.
Police further stated that after Paul was booked, they received “additional video evidence” suggesting that her minor child was injured during the incident. This video evidence has been referred to the district attorney’s office for review and could result in further charges, including felony assault. However, Herriman police also stated that Paul’s status as a social media influencer has no bearing or impact on the investigation or outcome of the case.
Paul’s arrest has sent a shockwave through the TikTok community, with many of her followers expressing confusion and concern. Paul has been open about her struggles with depression and anxiety, her divorce, and her new relationship. Some of her followers have since posted messages of support, while others have questioned the severity of the charges and the circumstances of the incident.
Paul has yet to respond publicly to her arrest, and the district attorney’s office has not commented on the status of the investigation. Either way, Paul’s case serves as a reminder to us all of the importance of reporting and holding accountable those who commit domestic violence, regardless of their public profile.
