DK Metcalf Proves NFL Drug Tests Are Unstoppable
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has proven that nothing can stop the NFL’s drug testing program, not even an entirely different sport. The 24-year-old participated in the NBA Celebrity All-Star Game on Saturday night, and put on a show for the crowd, throwing down dunks and blocking shots en route to being named MVP of the contest.
It’s the offseason in the NFL now, and while some players are restricted in what sports they can do (like the Cleveland Browns forbidding Myles Garrett from playing basketball), the Seahawks were obviously fine with Metcalf participating in the game. But what happened next showed that the NFL’s drug testing system is unstoppable.
On Sunday morning, Metcalf posted a screenshot of his phone to his Instagram Story, which showed a text message from an NFL drug tester. It appeared that the NFL drug tester had sent the message shortly after the All-Star Game on Saturday, proving that the NFL’s drug testing system is indeed as “random” as they say it is.
Tyler Lockett was pretty clear on Twitter that he thinks the “randomness” of the NFL’s drug tests are a joke. There are plenty of examples of the NFL handing out a “random” drug test to a player who just had a massive game. But it’s a rarity for it to happen when it’s the offseason and the guy isn’t even playing football. Metcalf may be one of the first.
This incident shows just how serious the NFL is about its drug testing program, and that no matter the circumstance, they will test any player if they deem it necessary. Metcalf may have been playing in an entirely different sport, but the NFL’s drug testing system still found him and showed that they have eyes everywhere.
