With the NFL Scouting Combine taking place next week in Indianapolis, many teams will be sending their coaches and staff to evaluate the college prospects; however, the Green Bay Packers will be an exception. According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has elected to skip the combine and instead use his time to work with the staff on scheme projects.
The Packers’ general manager Brian Gutekunst and the rest of the personnel department will still attend the combine as usual, and Gutekunst will speak to the media on Tuesday morning from the combine. LaFleur and the rest of the coaching staff are said to be taking the approach that everything from the combine is recorded, so they can view it afterward.
The biggest offseason question for the Packers is whether Aaron Rodgers will still be their quarterback in 2023. LaFleur’s decision to skip the combine could be seen as a way of sending a message to Rodgers that the team is looking to the future and is not willing to wait for him to make a decision.
The Packers are entering an important offseason, and LaFleur and the rest of the staff will have their work cut out for them. While they may not be attending the combine in person, they’ll be sure to stay up to date on all the news and scouting reports coming out of it.
