The Benefits of Taking a Poker Break for Sports Bettors
Sports betting has become increasingly popular over the past few years, and with that comes a lot of competition. With all the sports available to bet on, it can be easy to become overwhelmed and start chasing bets. This can lead to burnout and decreased performance. Taking a break from betting and trying something new, like poker, can be beneficial to sports bettors in many ways.
Recently, I took a break from sports betting and tried my hand at poker. This week, I traveled to Las Vegas to play in the RunGood Poker Series tournament at Graton Casino in Santa Rosa, California. As I played in two events, I realized that there were some lessons to be learned from my poker experience that could be beneficial as a sports bettor.
The first lesson I learned was balancing plates and removing plates from my load. Many bettors try to handicap or wager on every sport available, but this can be taxing on the mind. I removed tennis from my workload, as I wanted to stay sharp and devote the required energy to my other handicapping and poker. As a result, I cashed one poker event and cashed another PGA first-round leader.
The second lesson I learned was to take a break from betting altogether. It’s easy to get caught up in betting 12 months out of the year, but our brains need rest and recovery just as our bodies do. Taking a break from betting allowed me to refocus and regroup, and playing poker gave me a chance to socialize and meet new people without the conversation revolving around their favorite sports team.
The last lesson I learned was to find my happiness and do the things I love. I hate running, so I eliminated it from my workout routine and life became much better. Similarly, betting should be fun. Do what you need to do to keep it that way and make sure to take breaks when needed.
In the end, poker was an enjoyable experience that reminded me of how useful the game can be towards sports betting. Taking a break from betting and trying something new can be beneficial in many ways and can help you become a better bettor.
