On Monday, the latest Associated Press college basketball poll was released, showing Purdue falling from their #4 spot to #5. The Boilermakers are now behind the Duke Blue Devils, Virginia Cavaliers, Gonzaga Bulldogs, and Tennessee Volunteers.
The slide comes after a road loss to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, who currently sit at #13 in the poll. Purdue had previously been undefeated in Big 10 play before suffering the loss to Minnesota.
The Big 10 has five teams in the top 25, including Michigan State at #7, Michigan at #9, Wisconsin at #19, and Iowa at #20. This is the most of any conference in the nation.
The top 25 is mostly the same as it was last week, with only Purdue and North Carolina State (from #12 to #17) switching spots. The biggest jump was made by Houston, who moved up from #25 to #23.
The poll will be updated again next Monday, and Purdue will look to get back into the top four and avoid any further drops. With a home game against Northwestern on Wednesday, the Boilermakers will have the opportunity to prove they deserve to be in the top five.
