Pyotr Kochetkov: The Fiery Goaltender Making a Name For Himself
Pyotr Kochetkov, a 23-year-old netminder playing for the AHL’s Chicago Wolves, has been making headlines lately. On Friday night, Kochetkov pulled off a rare feat and launched the puck the full 200 feet of the ice, from behind his own goal line, and into the Manitoba Moose net. After such an incredible move, Kochetkov celebrated with an incredible display of emotion and it quickly went viral.
Kochetkov has earned a reputation for being a fiery player, willing to drop the gloves at any moment and not backing down from any challenge. During last season’s playoffs, he didn’t back down from the league’s premier pest in Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand. His play backs it up, too. Through 19 appearances for the Carolina Hurricanes this season, he has earned a .913 save percentage and a 2.33 goals-against average, and his AHL stats are even better.
It’s easy to see why Kochetkov has earned the respect and admiration of all hockey fans. His willingness to stand up for himself and his teammates, combined with his skill, makes him an incredibly valuable asset on any team. His celebration after scoring his goal has certainly earned him a place in hockey lore, and it’s safe to say that Kochetkov might just become everyone’s favorite goaltender in a year or two.
