The Dallas Stars are making a big splash just before the NHL trade deadline, as they have acquired forward Max Domi from the Chicago Blackhawks. Domi, who signed a one-year “show me” deal with Chicago this past summer, has had a career year in 2021, posting 18 goals and 49 points in 60 games. He is also set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
In the trade, Dallas has also acquired AHL netminder Dylan Wells, while goaltender Anton Khudobin and a second-round pick are going the other way. Khudobin is a veteran who played a key role in the Stars’ march to the Stanley Cup final in 2020.
The trade is a huge win for the Stars, who now have a young, talented forward in Domi who can help them make a deep playoff run. His experience and skill set should be a great addition to the Dallas lineup, and he should be able to make an immediate impact.
It remains to be seen whether the move will pay off for Dallas in the long run, but it’s certainly a risk worth taking. With Domi in the fold, the Stars should be in good shape as they head into the postseason.
