Why You Should Be Careful When Using Air Fryers
Air fryers are a popular kitchen appliance these days, but the recent recall of over two million air fryers from U.S. Cosori shows that you should always be careful when using them. The voluntary recall was due to faulty wiring that can lead to overheating, posing fire and burn risks.
Cosori, the air fryer manufacturer, found that the closed-end crimp connectors inside the appliance, which are responsible for establishing electrical connections between certain wires, can malfunction and overheat. This can lead to potential fire hazards, as evidenced by the 205 reports the company has received of their air fryers catching fire, burning, melting, overheating, or smoking. These incidents have included 10 minor burn injuries and 23 minor property damage reports.
The recall affects several models, which were distributed nationwide and have “Cosori” on the front. The model number can be found on the bottom label of the unit, or in the user manual if you still have it. All recalled units are either 3.7 or 5.8 quartz in size and come in several colors.
If you have one of these air fryers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that you stop using it immediately and contact Cosori to receive your choice of a free replacement air fryer or a different Cosori product. You can also contact the company directly with any questions you may have.
It’s important to remember that although air fryers are convenient and a healthier way to prepare food, you should always be aware of any potential safety risks. Check for recalls before using any new appliance and make sure to read the user manual to understand how to use the appliance safely.
