As the Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder mulls over the decision to sell the team, tensions are reportedly beginning to rise between Snyder and other owners. According to the Washington Post, Snyder has asked for indemnity from any future legal liability or expenses should he decide to sell the team – a demand which has reportedly infuriated some owners and the Commissioner Roger Goodell.
The Post also reported that owners may try to force Snyder to sell the team if he does not do so voluntarily. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is said to be attempting to broker a deal that would see Snyder sale the team and move on.
It is unclear what legal liabilities Snyder is seeking indemnity for, as any team-related liabilities will be handled as part of the sale of the team. Some speculate that Snyder may be using this demand as leverage to get more money from the potential buyer, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
The Post acknowledged the possibility that Snyder is simply keeping Bezos from bidding on the team to gain leverage in the negotiations. It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out, and if Snyder will get what he wants or if he will be forced to sell the team.
