Travis Scott has been accused of punching a man in the face during a dispute at a nightclub in New York City. The altercation reportedly took place during an early morning dispute at the Midtown Manhattan nightclub Nebula.
According to NYPD spokesperson, the incident stemmed from a “verbal dispute” between Scott and a 52-year-old which “escalated into a physical altercation.” The victim was allegedly “punched in the face” and the aggressor “then damaged an audio speaker and video screen causing about $12,000 in equipment damages.”
Travis Scott’s lawyer, Mitchell Schuster, has stated that the altercation is a “misunderstanding” and that they are “actively working with the venue and law enforcement to resolve and set the record straight.”
The alleged victim, identified only as “Mark,” is a sound engineer who was reportedly at the venue when the altercation occurred. Mark claims that Scott was playing the DJ music so loud that the sound was distorted, and when he attempted to lower the volume, Scott became enraged. He alleges that Scott gave him the finger, then went to where he was and punched him in the head. Mark is currently in a New Jersey hospital with a neck injury, pins and needles in his arm, and tingling.
Richie Romero, managing partner of Nebula, and Dorian Harrington, the talent booker, have both commented on the incident, calling it “blown completely out of proportion,” and a “total misunderstanding,” respectively.
Video has surfaced of Scott exchanging words with the DJ, seemingly mouthing “back the f*** up.” Another video shows what appears to be the damaged sound equipment.
Travis Scott is currently on a break from his longtime girlfriend, reality star and beauty mogul Kylie Jenner. He returned to the stage last year for the first time since the Astroworld Festival tragedy, in which 10 people died during a crowd surge. Scott is currently the defendant in several lawsuits stemming from the tragedy.
The investigation into the altercation is still ongoing.
