Vacant land in the Florida Keys has a new ‘base camp’ being used for unknown activities.

The FHP officers are housed in the base camp, according to the village statement, and the base camp has “all necessary amenities for the officers.”The village statement said the base camp is “temporary in nature and is expected to be in place for no more than 30 days.”The camp is located along the Old Highway, which was the main road that spanned the island chain before the Overseas Highway was finished in 1938. It runs behind restaurants, gas stations, gift shops, and fancy homes and estates, and is now home to a new tent city.
